Fly Fishing Technique : Types of artificial lures and their characteristics

When classify types of artificial lures we must consider three fundamental characteristics, such as casting distance, the depth of swimming and his movement. It is mandatory to know that information to choose the right model when purchasing a model and not spend money for nothing and of course, when our line and tie it to throw away a good piece.

Casting distance

Reach great distances in the set has become an obsession for many fishermen and although they were right not necessarily be taken as a fixed rule of "a greater distance more fish." The best-known artificial fish like minnows and hard jerkbaits are lures that matter most to the time of the haul for its construction and features. Its relatively light weight necessitates a proper system of checks (for ball or piston) in order to be released over long distances, in days required rough seas and wind, so common in the northern and Atlantic coasts. Also in the Mediterranean they have their moment when the fish walk away from the shore and we have no means to get to their domains a minnow attractive movement. Whether a fish of 9 cm. or 20cm., with a system of cash balances, will fly like a missile can reach 60 to 70 m. easily in the larger models.

More brands each season are determined to seek ever more stylized minnows to offer less wind resistance to be released, something very important. It will help a lot to throw away good lure fishing line properly. A twisted is ideal because we can further lower diameter with unimaginable resistance years ago, plus they do not usually soak up water like conventional nylon and helps to make a better throw. We also found lures without counterweights lighter and generally made of wood or plastic models but with little weight volume inside. Obviously we not release them far but we won in natural movement. They are better suited to fish lures in rivers and reservoirs where there often requires making such long hauls and at sea.

Other lures and poppers, pencils or passers-by its robust construction and are thrown quite far, with different systems of counterweights to the minnows, in which must be studied to the millimeter to get those big distances we talked. If we talk about specific models, with large minnows as Mommotti of Seaspin, the Saltiga and Salt Pro Daiwa or Tide minnow Duo, we can achieve distances of many dream meters years ago by the spinners of the sea, looking for the larger predators. For bass have plenty of somewhat smaller size models also they reach great distances, entering a packed models tastes of fish and fisherman market.

Freshwater still the Rapala and Lucky Craft brand one of the most effective but the years pass. Most lures that are in the catalog are more suitable for freshwater, why haul distances are not met with them, although we can launch an effective and subtle artificial to 10, 20 or 30 m. No problem.

If we talk about other lures like spinnerbaits, spoons and other hard deceptions, we dip into fine lines to get good sets, since by their physiognomy, fishing lures are more short. Special case is that of the jigs to the sea, specific metal lures for large sets in all conditions and can reach with the appropriate models for spinning (are talking about 60-70 gr.) Enormous distances with ease.

Swimming depth

Among the hard lures we are floating and sunken models, but as we shall see, the possibilities are much higher. Among the floating lures have specific surface as poppers or walkers, working in the first sheet of water without being immersed and "floating" (floating) if the minnows and crankbaits models that float stopped as indicated his name but the first laps crank and plunge to the specific depth of each model, which comes into play in the form of his palette or bib. Bibs long models tend to drop several meters deep and not infrequently models able to go down to 7 to 8 m. deep and short Bibs models makes the lure swim in the range of half a meter and two meters. The lures can be sunk from a minnow or stickbait (sunk walker) to the metal lures like spoons, jigs and spinnerbaits. A minnow sunk only one floating differs by its weight, which will cause nothing but hit the water down more or less quickly to their funds. From there comes our imagination in the collection. Are ideal models for linear collected as a classic Rapala Coundown or specific jerking minnows for fishing, as Mommotti 190 Seaspin. Sunk walkers are efectivísmos ball, but require a learning correct use, that when we get it we give great joy. The advantage of the sunken lures is the ability to swim in depth chosen by the fisherman, they are more versatile, effective both in areas of deep and shallow areas.

But we can not ignore another fairly new variant, suspending models. They are manufactured in plastic floating minnows, called jerkbaits, which remain stationary when immersed in the water layer which we collect stopped. And you can assume that a lure that's some candy for a predator, whether in sea or river. A classic models are suspending Rapala or Lucky Craft Pointer, authentic machines basses and pike fishing. Suitable for fishing lures jerking, gathered to discuss in the next section.

To take into account again is the appropriate course of fishing, since we fish with thinner will reach greater depth our lure.

Different types of movements

Here we come to the section with more technicalities so try to explain in easy and enjoyable way.

ROLLING types of artificial lures:

movement is achieved with lures bib (minnows, jerkbaits and crankbaits) floating and sunken to be picked linearly. The lure rotates about its longitudinal axis, which teaches movement leaving their flanks and see its attractions if they have holographic sparkles in his painting. If you also have rattles are calling much attention sought predator.

WOOBLING types of artificial lures:

this movement is the classic and effective "waggle" gettin lures bib, depending on their design. The lure collection turns sideways linear along its longitudinal axis, getting a move in more or less pronounced S by model. They are the lures that more fish detected in low light or murky waters with its lateral line, so it is very important when purchasing an artificial. Worth noting is that currently many lures have the woobling and rolling movements while being large artificial fishing.

Artificial baits WALKING THE DOG:

This movement is achieved with walkers, floating and sunken, when we give short and dry toe touches with the reed, making the lure slide in a more or less zigzag open or closed depending on the model in question.

Artificial lures JERKING

This movement pushes your buttons the most jaded fish and although it is characteristic of suspending lures, we can get to some large sunken minnows and some floating. Basically it is the lure to collect dry spaced zigzag pulls to get rabid, rotate around its own axis with strong highlights and give jogs that attract attention of large predators. At sea is effective with leerfish, bluefish and dolphinfish and river trout are the bass and pike potential prey. Many bites occur with fixed or suspending lure if it descends a few centimeters.

Moving lures TWICHING

It's basically like the jerking but faster, with quicker movements, ideal for fast species in the attack. A big trout love this movement and in the sea dolphinfish and beautiful.

Sawtooth movement

This is a classic collection when the collection is not linear bearing fruit. It is the lure linearly collect and make a stop to return to descend or emerging (depending on model) we create appropriate and return to pick up. Classic collection in reservoirs after pike, walleye, perch or bass, even at sea bass is the most effective.
